Hundreds of years before Bernoulli taught us how aerodynamic lift works, Da Vinci surmised that the wing worked much like an oar through water.

This model, based on Leonardo's codices, has fully articulated wings that extend forward, rotate slightly and "grab" some air and "push" it backward.

Ingenious mechanism; looks very much like flight. Just doesn't exactly mimic the real thing.

Extremely fun to study and build.
