Background:
Decades ago, the Trimble Wildlife Area was made a part of the flood control project of Smithville Lake, headed up by the US Corps of Engineers. Our property shares over 1,350 feet of border with this property.
And that heritage is evident today…
Wildlife:
I wish I always had my camera ready but I have personally seen all of the following on our property, some daily! It’s a rare morning or evening that a particular family of deer don’t come parading by.
Deer, Turkey,
Owls, Herons, Hawks, Eagles
Bobcat, Coyotes, Fox
Possum, Raccoon, Woodchuck
Orioles, Finches, Woodpeckers
Pond:
The pond is full of Large and Small Mouth Bass, Blue Gill, Crappie, Turtles, Clams, Crawfish
and is kept well oxygenated by two aerators and a large fountain.
Trails:
The nice thing about this particular piece of property is that it is not a homogenous 60 acres of open farmland. It does have tillable acres but it also has wooded area and tall grass areas, so it goes from micro-climate to micro-climate. The perfect trail ride environment. After winding through a narrow passage, you’re released into a wide open field and then into another wooded area. Easy to take a different ride each day. And the Corps property is adjacent and there are some paths and open fields to be had there as well. If you want trailering practice, Smithville Lake has dedicated Equestrian trails just 4 miles away.
